Clearya has been awarded a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) under its Local Data for Equitable Communities program to apply its analytics platform, Clearya Insights, in a new domain: pesticide-use information in California's agricultural communities. The project is led by Clearya, in partnership with Californians for Pesticide Reform (CPR), with the Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment serving as fiscal sponsor. It marks Clearya's expansion into agriculture, bringing the platform's analytics to a new category of public data.
Clearya Insights analyzes fragmented product and chemical data and transforms it into clear, decision-ready intelligence. To date, Clearya has applied the platform across formulated and manufactured consumer products, surfacing chemical hazards and safer alternatives at scale. This project applies the same core technology to a different category of data: county records of pesticide use across Fresno, Kern, and Tulare counties, in the southern San Joaquin Valley.
In California, pesticide-use records exist at the county level, but they are fragmented across counties and not in a form that is easy to analyze or act on. Clearya will gather these county-level records, consolidate them into a single unified dataset, and enrich them with additional data sources. The platform will geocode and map pesticide applications and attach plain-language health and safety context drawn from public classifications published by agencies such as the U.S. EPA and California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment. The result will be a clear, queryable view of what has been applied, where, and why it matters.
Clear, accurate information about pesticide use serves everyone with a stake in California agriculture: the families who live alongside the fields, the growers and food producers who manage these inputs, and the retailers and brands involved across the supply chain. Clearya delivers rigorous, independent analysis that stakeholders can rely on.

Moving into California's agricultural data was a natural next step."
Californians for Pesticide Reform brings deep community relationships and on-the-ground knowledge to the project. CPR's local members work directly with farmworkers across the San Joaquin Valley and understand which questions matter most to the communities they serve. CPR will help shape the project's priorities and will put the resulting analysis to use in its community education and outreach.

The California Department of Public Health and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control use Clearya to support their chemical screening and compliance work, and Clearya has been recognized with an innovation award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This RWJF-funded project brings that same analytical capability to agricultural data.
